Question
hello ma'am, can you please tell me what does "engaging hindquarters" mean? does this term give a good meaning in thoroughbred horse racing?

Answer
Rohit,

Engaging the haunches or hindquarters of the horse means that the horse is able to lower
his haunches, using them more as pushing power. Correct training enables the horse
to become stronger, better balanced, and able to increase his pushing power.

Race horses push strongly from their haunches, where their "motor" is, but it has a different meaning when you are talking about dressage horses and their training. When they are able to engage their haunches, they can lift and lighten their forehand, and eventually
strengthen their back, muscles, and entire bodies.

Dressage is aimed at keeping a horse strong, fit, and balanced into his later years.
