Question
hello ma'am, lets suppose a bond created between a horse and myself. let it be a gelding. daily i groomed, hand walked, fed and horse felt happy with me. i have done this continuously till 2 weeks and left the town say for 1 year. later, i returned to the stable to work with that horse, will it recognize me? will it allow me to touch it even though it was ill treated by another person making that horse mean and aggressive?

Answer
Rohit,

I do like your questions!!!

You really do think a lot about horses and how they respond to things.....

Horses have wonderful memories........this can help in training them, by the way, if you are doing a good job, or make it more difficult if someone trained them incorrectly.

I do think horses can recognize people, animals and other horses after longf periods of time.
I have no idea if a particular horse would remember you after a year but I would say it is highly possible.

Whether he would accept and realize that you were not going to hurt him may be asking for a little too much. It would make a good (sad) horse story, but whether or not he would instantly accept you is questionable.

I do think it would help with his rehabilitation, though-the fact that he had kind treatment from you. But two weeks compared to 1 year is quite a difference.

I once saw two horse who had been best friends and then separated, reunited after 7 years. They instantly recognized each other and whinnied and scratched each other's withers. It was a happy thing to see, but also made me realize how fragile these wonderful animals are.
