Question
Hi i have a 10 month old colt. I have had him for 2 months and have taught him a lot. Such as to halter, to lead, to trailer, to go over obstacles, and more. But the other day i went out to catch him and he would not let me catch him. I tried for several of hours. I have caught him with no trouble before the other day. Why do you think he has been acting like that? And how do i fix it?
thank you for all of your time

Jonathan

Answer
Hi Jonathan,
It sounds as though your colt is testing you to see who is boss. Bring him to a small area like a round pen. Go into the pen and try to halter him. If he back off, then you retreat. Do not make eye contact. As soon as he stops, you move forward. Continue doing this until he stands. If he stands and allows you to get him, then praise him and give him a small treat.
