Rescue Horse

A friend recently saved a horse from slaughter. He is VERY thin! The odd thing is he won't eat grass.  Has no interest in it.  Could you please give your opinon on why there is no interest?

Pat, I do need some additional information, if you wouldn't mind, to give you my best opinion on this very odd situation.
Where was the horse purchased? Private sale or auction? if auction, which one? How old is the horse? In what state is the horse located?  WHat breed is this horse? if you know.
