Question
Hi, i have just acquired a field for my pony, and some 'kindly' farmer has just topped the field, without my consent, leaving the grass 8" high, and all the cut grass left in the field. Apparently it wasn't cut low enough for a bailer to pick up and i am stuck.  I can gather family and rakes together to clear an area manually, which will be fenced off, but will this be safe for the pony to graze on? I have to move the pony from his current field ASAP. Help!  Thanks, Emma

Answer
Emma, If you leave the grass clippings out in the field for several days, they will die on their own, and be fine for your pony.  I would however watch your pony very carefully that he is not getting fat with all that grass.  Ponies have a nasty habit of foundering or colicing from grass overload.  But this is more prominent in ponies/horses that are not used to be on grass fileds, and are turned out into a lush green pasture to graze 24/7
