Horse problems

Question
Hi i was wondering if you could help me to understand my horse.
I bought a 15.3h 5yo belgium warmblood in 2008. He is slightly colded back but i have been working closely with equine massage therapist and in a train human massage therapist and we have slowly over come most of this problem pysically.
I had a horse psychic out to speak to him a week ago. He said he ws really happy with me and had made a really bonded with me althought he was not sure if he will be getting to stay(which he is for life). He also said that he wants to please me but his bad behaviour is down to lack of confidence and back problems and that he feels like he has let me down when it goes wrong.
I have been working with him for 1 year and ive been riding for 10 years mainly in other people problem horses and owned 10 horse of my own. Our lasted problem is he has stopped accepting my leg if i put my leg on his ears go back and he back or rears! If i smack him they get bigger and more aggressive. The only way i have seemed to over come this probly is by someone on the round with a stick to get him to move (only in walking and a little in trot) If im by myself i can swish the stick at the side of him but no leg aids even if a person on the ground. I also thought i would take his girlfriend into the school with us as a lead horse this really seemed to boost his confidence and he was willing to walk out but once we started to use our own spare if his girlfriend came near use he would be very grumpy and bunch up again... Im finding it very hard to understand him and where the problems are coming from. As on the ground and siting at a stand still on his back he is the most loving horse and if i run away from his he follows me. I have tried getting my trainer (a guy who my horse loves) to ride him but he still reacted in the same manner. I have taken to starting again again and walking to build trust and confidence on his back only walking and maybe trotting with a ground member.
Would really appreate any help or adivce you may give to help me and my horse over come another heardel or at least try anything.

Many thanks
sam

Answer
Sam,

You've done a lot, I agree. Have you checked his saddle fit?  Ask him about it, something there is not right.  He's said he has back problems and you're getting him worked on by a massage therapist so something is still not right.  Have you had him chiropracticked?  You didn't mention that.  You need to talk with him again and see if you can figure out what is going on.   Horses like this can be extremely difficult to work with and need a great deal of patience.  You seem to have both.

Other than what I mentioned above I cannot suggest anything new to try.  Just tincture of time.
