Colt breaking

Question
I have a Tennessee Walker filly. She is 8 months old, but I was wondering, what age should she be to start breaking her for the saddle? Thanks.

Answer
I start getting my horses used to having the saddle on them when they are 2 1/2.

I start with just placing the saddle on them, letting them get used to it being there, after a few months I introduce the girth.

I never get on them or attempt to get on them until they are 3 at the very least, I usually like to wait a bit longer for their skeletal structure to develope even more.

Slow and steady, in this case, is the way.
