For me and my experience, it's all about environment !! BOTH have there good & bad.
Dry, arid country where you are from, the synthetics (rubber,polyurethane) would "most"
likely be best. With a packing between shoe & hoof you can maintain moisture and NOT
have wall problems later.
With leather, we will dampen the pads upon application & they also maintain a hoof well, BUT will get extremely dry and hard if the horse has no way of returning moisture to it's hooves.
A dry or hard pad will defeat your purpose and may cause soreness...Just what you don't
need !!
