4 Equally Swollen Cornorary band area

Question
I noticed recently that a customers horse had 4 equally swollen (they tended to be spongy) areas between the cornary band to the hoofwall. The hoof wall seems to be missing the outside layer of the wall, about 1/2 in from hairline all the way around, though tissue is not showing. The horse showed no signs of lameness as of yet. I dont think it is abcess, being all four feet are involved. It looks like white line upside down. What is it? I have never crossed anything like this.

Answer
DEAR SANDI...THANKS FOR OUR QUESTION...
Have been working out-of-state...sorry to be late!!

IF no lameness is present...I'm like you...VERY PUZZLING !!!

I HAVE to ask the "normal remedial" questions: LoL

If the horse had access to ponds, rivers or tanks to drink from?? Excess moisture followed by
extreme dryness.
There have been circumstance where an over abundant access to protein, BUT usually you
will find swelling in lower legs also; predominately in the hind limbs.

Have they changed feeds lately?? Different fly-spray or fly-spray system?? Many times,
any chemicals, diet, medications whether topically or internally can cause a reaction.

I would definitely have a qualified farrier hoof test all 4 hooves, followed by examining
and palpating the coronary bands. IF nothing looks obvious, then definitely have a veterinarian
examine soon as possible.

If there is still no lameness...I'm Prone to believe it is still a "reaction" to something the horse is getting into or being exposed to by your client!!

Best to You...
