Turtle information please

I found a turtle. He is just one that you find walking across a road or driveway. I found this one this morning and picked him up and put him into the grandkids small plastic swimming pool. I don't know what to feed it, without going to the pet store and I don't even know if one will live long in there. There is about 5 inches of water in there and I place a board so he can climb on it and eat. What can I throw in there for him to eat? I want the grandchildren to see how beautiful he is. He is yellow and black striped. Help me please. I know I will let him go in a couple of days, but until then.......Thanks

If you are going to let it go in a couple days, don't sweat the food- in the wild these turtles often go a week or three without food.

The pool is just fine for a few days as ling as they can climb out and sun, so that's OK as well.
