Question
QUESTION: My son received a turtle from a friend of mine at work. the turtle was purchased at a beach side shop in Pensacola, Fl about two years ago. I can get you pictures tomorrow, but in the mean time i have assumed he is an aquatic species because he has webbed feet, the top of his shell is very dark (like snakeskin, copperhead colored) and his belly is an orange tone with black spots. his head has dark colored stripes and he has one small yellow spot behind each eye (that is pretty much the only bright color on his head). he also has a hot pink colored line on the top of his shell that kind of outlines the square-like make up of his shell. He loves to eat bugs and slugs from our yard. the questions that i have is (1)what kind of turtle does he sound like to you and (2) my son caught a blue tail skink and wants to feed it to him. the lady at our local pet store said she heard they will paralyze dogs so should we allow the turtle to eat the skink or not?

ANSWER: without a pix it is hard to tell however id go with a eastern painted turtle and no they do not eak skinks.  if youd like to send pictures ill look at them and make sure im correct.

QUESTION: Thank you. I will send a pic tomorrow. Will the blue tail skink hurt him if my son tries to feed it to him?

Answer
Without seeing a pix and being sure of the species Id say NO just to let the skink go or even put it in a tank and enjoy him as a pet but I would say no to feeeding it to him. Not to many turtles would eat them anyhow but it isnt worth hurting either of them
if you send m e the pix I will be able to assist further. In the time you have had him can you tell me what set up youre using?
