about my daughters yellow bellied slider

i think my daughters turtle might be sick the bottom of the shell is soft, and also the turtle is the size of a silver dollar what should we feed it we got it turtle pellets and let bask in the sunlight in the afternoon is there anything else we need to do for it   my daughter is 17 years old and is very worried

If the bottom is slightly resilient, like it is made of a springy plastic, flexes a little with firm pressure, then bounces right back- that is normal for a young turtle. If it was harder, it would grow oddly.

Softshell makes the shell feel more leathery without much springiness. If it IS softshell, you will need a more aggressive treatment than sunshine.
