Slider Turle with red strip behind his eyes

I just bought a Slider Turle from this nice asian lady...my question is should I put enough water in he tank to cover the whole base of the tank? or should i put a little bit of water where curtain areas arent covered in the tank?

Red-ear or other sliders like having a lot of space. We usually recommend a mostly full 10 gallon tank for a baby or two, and then about 10 gallons of water per inch as they grow.

(The old tiny bowl bit was never a healthy habitat for these neat animals!)
