QuestionI saved a very small turtle from my grandparents pond in which has a rule that all turtles must die...anyway...I brought it home and put it temporarily in a small aquarium...it will be getting a 20 gallon one in about a week...anyway...I have noticed a muddy looking slimey substance under its chin and on its legs as well as the bottom of its shell and being an avid turtle lover I am fearful it may be sick
AnswerHi Jennifer, it may just be an algea growth. Try giving him a bath and buy a spare SOFT bristled toothbrush and gently scrub his shell, if it comes off then great, if not then I will need more description of the substance. But it doesn't sound like too much to be worried about. But if it is a fungus then he may need medical attention. If you can get me a picture of it then I may be able to help a little more.
Read up on aquatic turtle fungus' and algea covered turtles. To help with what to do next.
Good luck
