Question
I have 4 baby red eared sliders, 1 of which will not eat and has a haze over his eyes. The other 3 turtles seem to be very healthy, but we can not seem to get our little stanley healthy. In 5 weeks we haven't seen him eat ANY food at all. We have eye drops for him however they do not seem to be working. Also we can not seem to get the other guys to eat pellets at all or insects only freeze dries krill and shrimp...is this going to be enough??

Answer
Freeze-dried krill and shrimp is not as nutritious as the 'plain' frozen kinds, and you can also try worms, live insects, small fish, etc. Not eating pellets is unusual, but not too worrisome. You might want to try a different brand however.

Eye problems can be a little tricky. They can be diet/vitamin related, dirty water, stress, or early symptoms of other illnesses. Sadly, the eye drops do not really work.

What you need to do is to review the basic cares, and attack it from that angle. Try http://www.redearslider.com for good care guidelines (or http://www.austinsturtlepage.com for even more depth).

The priority is the eyes. Get whatever glitches there are in the cares taken care of and get the eyes cleared up. Once the tank and cares are solid, try either Turtle Sulfa Dip or the fish medication Stress Coat (but not both) to try to help a little faster.
