QuestionWe have 2 male horsefeild tortoises and are thonking about buying a female this year. We are going to try to breed them and sell the babies (sort of like a investment).
We are wondering what we do when the female lays the eggs, do we incabate them, let her to do it or something else. Please keep me posted if you know the answer.
AnswerHello many people make the mistake of thinking it is an investment to breed and allow the hatching to occur. However when you include all cost involved, vets if needed the wear and tear on female etc it is not cost effective.
There are breeders all over getting homes for their females due to the same issue. noone is buying right now, and you will end out with several to care for.
We do rescue and rehab and could tell you stories that will make your skin crawl. Id not do so out of respect for some people who are reading the posts.
Please aviod this avenue. If youre looking for financial gain, research the full care etc, and go to schools and educate people about them specifically kids and have the school board pay you to do so.
