painted turtle about 11/2 escaping tank

I have a 11/2 year old painted turtle and he keeps esccaping his tank I have moved his basking rock put edges around it and several other things I am having no luck keeping him in every morning he is out and somewhere in my home. What can I do?

It sounds like the water level is near the top of the tank. It is generally recommended to use a tank big enough to allow a LOT of water but still have a nice wall around the tank to keep it in- the wall should be about its shell length above water, or twice its shell length above basking sites, etc.
