Question
I was wondering what the signs of a female box turtle getting ready to lay eggs. Also what would make my male box turtle attack the female?

Answer
Hi Kryn,

Generally a female that's about to lay will be very restless and constantly pace around the enclosure.  They will also show very little or no interest in food.  They get a kind of look about them that you'll learn to recognize in time--not exactly dazed, but not in tune with the world around them.

Aggressive breeding behavior is pretty common.  If your male is harassing the female, especially if you think she's gravid and/or about to lay, I'd separate them for a while to give her a break and a chance to lay.

Good luck!
