Is something wrong with my painted turtle?

22 16:17:39

Question
I have two painted turtles, both just under 1 yr old. I have one male and one female (I know by the front claws and the tails). Last night they didn't seem as interested in their food as normal(Turtle pellets and baby shrimp). This morning it seemed as though the female wanted to rest but the male kept pushing her and bugging her. Everything about her looks normal but she seems to be floating weird. Her left side acts as if it is more buoyant than the right so she is tilted with her right side down as she rests in the water. Have you ever seen this before and if so, do you know what's going on? Thanks for your time and help.

Answer
Hello Cheri,

I seen this once, but only when the turtle was swimming. The Irregular swimming turned out to be a very serious sign of RI (Respiratory infection) however, I don't think that RI is the reason for your turtle's behavior.
Anyway, the best thing to do would be to check on the habitat conditions (Basking, water temperature, filtration) and make sure that they're all proper. And just in case, if there's an upcoming disease, it's also important that you keep the turtle warm and away from breezes and drafts.
If any other signs would appear, like sneezing, swollen eyes or inactivity, I would recommend you to separate your both turtles and eventually contact a vet.

Best wishes
Sara
