Yellow Bellied Slider eggs

Question
My 10 year old female slider laid an egg last night in my yard.  I'm sure she's mated with a male that I've been turtle sitting.  I've currently got the egg in a few inches of sandy soil, but what temp should it be kept at, how much humidity is right before I ignore it for the next few months?

Answer
The egg will generally be best off if left totally alone- the nest would be the right temp and humidity already. The eggs should hatch in 20-350 days, with 2-3 months being the usual norm.

If you dug it up, you have to be very careful to not turn or mishandle the egg- the embryo is very fragile. It should be kept at about 82-86F in about 80%+ humidity. A large plastic bag with some clean sand can work. Dampen the sand until it holds together a bit without any dripping water, then inflate the bag and tie it off. Park it in a place with pretty constant temps- the less fluctuation the better. Check it periodically and keep the habitat warm and humid.

Good luck!
