Question
I became the keeper of a Red Legged Slider Turtle during the summer.  I live in the middle part of California and winter is coming on.  I have seen temperatures as low as 19 degrees during the winter.  The turtle roams around the yard and plays in the fish pond (small one about 500 gallons two feet deep)
My consern is what do I do in the winter.  The pond has a rubber liner so she (I Think) can't dig into the mud at the bottom of the pond.  Do I put her in a box and keep her inside during the winter??  Or what???

Answer
I would recommend keeping her indoors in a heated tank over the winter since it is hard to hibernate them indoors... however you might get more helpful info from http://www.turtleforum.com where you should find keepers from your area who can advise you.

Good luck!
