Question
I've had an Eastern box turtle for a few years and I just adopted what I believe to be a western ornate box turtle yesterday.  The western turtles beak is extremely longer then my Easters.  I mean its huge he looks like a bird and its chipped on one side.  Do I get this trimmed at the vet or is there anyway I can take care of this problem myself?

Answer
It would be best to get it trimmed at the vet a lot can go wrong if you don't know what you are doing.

Most vets are willing to show you how to do it and how short to make the beak after the first time. Plus adding a rough surface for the turtles to eat on will help as well once the beak is the right size.
