heating mat

i have been looking for information on the internet about corn snakes and i heard that you should get a heating mat for the hot side,so i did and i also heard that is better and safer to put it on the side of the tank instead of the bottom, is this true?

They are actually correct. Putting it on the side makes it harder for the snake to keep constant contact with the pad. Some snakes like to burrow and stay down next to it, which could result in burns in some cases. Cornsnakes, unless provided a plant to crawl in, seem to like to burrow under the substrate. So if you want to be safe, then put it on the side. :)
