Question
Is there any common way to determine sex of snake; such as the way they carry there rattles (strait with body or across) or (broken black strips on tail vs. solid black strips)? We kill a lot of snakes on the ranch from time to time and we were curious as to the sex???????????

Answer
I'm not as familiar with rattlesnakes as I am with kingsnakes and cornsnakes, but in general, a snake must be probed in order to determine it's sex. You can't tell just by looking at it's rattles.

I would like to add that I hope that the snakes you are killing represent an imminent danger to humans, and that you aren't just killing them for sport. Rattlesnakes have an active part in reducing rodent populations and are beneficial to the environment.
