QuestionOne of my cats got ahold of and ripped the tail from a western fence lizard. He's perked up a bit since I got him off of the patio, but his breathing is shallow, or appears to be (I know nothing of reptiles). Am I able to save him?
Answer It is more probable that the lizard "dropped" the tail to escape the cats. If you noticed what looked like strands of ligament, the lizard dropped the tail. It will grow back. If you have the lizard captive, he may be stressing out. Take him out to a nice area with lots of rocks, logs and trees, with a sunny spot and let him go. Native species belong in the wild and that's where he'll recover best.
