Question

Can you tell me at what age to put a male and female together to breed, and also how long I should keep them together for breeding, before seperating them again.Does the male have to be present once the eggs are laid ?
Thank you,

Answer
Before you consider breeding, where did you get your chameleons?  If from a pet store, the chances are that they may be siblings and should not breed together.  Far better if they came from separate breeders.  Make sure both are healthy by having them seen by a good reptile veterinarian to make sure they are parasite free and of good weight.  Although they reach sexual maturity at around 5 months old, it is always best to breed at physical maturity, when males are at least 17" long from snout to unrolled tail tip, and females, at least 10".  They are extremely territorial, so the best place for introduction would be a neutral territory, or the female is introduced to the male in his territory.  The male will sport courting colors.  A successful mating is when the female changes color. Then separate them.  Parents shouldn't ever see the young chams, because they will be looked upon as food.
