Question
Our bearded dragon has been acting very strange for the last few weeks. Yesterday we took him to our pet shop to show them his behaviour. He gapes his mouth for the majority of the time and he seems to heave and makes a wieird gasping/squeeky sound. The lady in the shop said that he could have something stuck, she massaged him and bathed him and as she went to give him a vitamin boost, he started to fit and shake his head about. He also pooed and projectile vomited. He passed out and everyone thought he was dead. He stopped breathing and went really cold and his colouring became very dark. All of a sudden he jumped up and came back to life, but was very poorly. He seemed to keep passing out and coming back to for about an hour or two. We have him under close surveillance and are taking him to the vets tomorrow, but wondered if you have heard of this before and could give us any tips in  the mean time?

He is still quite young (under 6 months), he shares his cage with a female who is 1 month younger than him. Their substrate is red desert sand. They eat locusts, brown crickets, black crickets, peppers, lettuce and some others but I can't think at the moment! We had the female first and when we got him he was a bit bigger than her. As he has not grown and has little appetite, she is now much bigger than him. We would be soo grateful for your advice.

Answer
Yasmin, he needs to see a vet as soon as possible. It sounds like severe respiratory tract infection.

Keep him warm, up the temperatures, house him on PAPERTOWEL substrate and keep an eye on him. Keep giving him water with a medicine dropper.

I am not a vet and can not really help much with this. But it sounds like RI (respiratory infection) to me.

Hope he pulls through, good luck
