Iguana breathing problems

Question
Our 3 yr old Iguana,(don't know the sex) is having difficulty breathing. She seems to gasp for air, as maybe her nostrils are clogged. I've brought her in a hot steamy shower with me, and also steamed up some Vicks vapor in the air. I used a turkey baster to try and suck out any fluid from her nostrils. I don't want to injure her. I'm afraid she is sick or has an infection. I can't afford Vet bills right now. (she was a gift from son's Dad).   What could be wrong with her and is there a home remedy?   We would be heart broken if this causes her to die. For a lizard, we are really attached to her. We have her in a screened cage. Lighting probably needs to be changed to the uva, uvb bulb, I think we just have the sun lamp. She eats green leaf lettuce, veggies, fruits, calcium powder added.
I hope you can help.
Thankyou,
Michelle

Answer
Michelle,                                                    She definately needs to be changed to a compact light with both UVA and UVB. The first thing I would do is get her to a vet immediately. She has a respirtory infection and needs antibiotic. As far as sexing her....turn her over and look at the insides of her thighs. They have femoral pores. They are like little dots.... if they are flat like little holes she is a girl... if they are raised he is male... the pores fill with a waxy substance... Go to the vet....Good Luck, Tina
