Question
i have a green water dragon, the vivarium is of a large size but was hand built by my partner.  just wanted to know if there was any specific wood that should be used and if the wood should be treated.

Answer
Specific to Water Dragons I'm not sure, but in general you want to stay away from all types of cedar with reptiles. Bugs hate it too, but it's also toxic to other living things.

Some animals don't care for pine and other sappy woods which can also be an irritant.

Mainly these cautions are for substrates. The enclosure construction is not as critical if it is sealed with water-based polyurethane or similar non-toxic/non-hazardous when dry sealant. I would just be sure to stay away from cedar, and seal anything else with something that is not considered unsafe for people when dry, and does not have a high off-gassing of volatile organic compounds ( VOC )( usually anything highly flammable and highly fuming ). Many building materials, such as lumber, are treated with formaldehyde, and one should avoid this if possible as this is a respiratory and carcinogenic hazard to the animal that has to live surrounded by these materials.

I suggest you check the website below for a general listing of plants and other substances which may be unsafe.
