Question
hello there I'm wondering if you could tell me how i can tell what species my classes pet skink is. if you could i would be very greatful. it is for a school project

Answer
Hi Melanie, Skinks represent the largest group of lizards but the first step to narrowing down the identification is to figure out where your skink is native to. If he is a wild caught skink from your local area then we should be able to match him up to photos of local reptiles. I have included a link that has reptile I.D photos by state. If he was purchased from a pet store then he could be from almost anywhere in the world. Pet store reptiles are sold under a "common name" (example: blue tongued skink) which correlates to a scientific species. If you have a common name or know where he is from or can post a photo of him that would help. Hopefully you can find a match for him in the link provided.
