Moving from CA to TX with pets

Question
I am moving from Southern, CA to Midwest, TX with 2 adult bearded dragons, and 3 juveniles.  I also have a Sonoran Gopher Snake @ 3ft as well as a pair of rats, and my cat.  My question is will my pets be hurt if i am driving and their cages will not be available right away, as the US Navy moves things kind of slow.  Also what is an economical way to transport them. I was thinking medium rubbermaid tubs for the adult beardies, small herp cages for the babies, a small pet carrier for the rats and im lost on the snake.  Was planning on rotating the lights on the cages about every hour and maintaining the car temp at around 78F.  Any advice you could give would be appreciated.  THe vehicle is going to be a 2005 ford freestar with the back seat down btw.

Answer
Hi Daniel,
They should be fine with the move.  As with all reptiles they will be a bit stressed from the trip but it shouldn't be a problem.
As for the lights, if you mean while on the trip, they aren't necessary.  You can get heat packs at places such as

which will keep them warm enough on the trip.  You want them to not be as active so "night time" temperatures are best.
When using the chemical heat packs its very important to have enough "air holes" in the cage they are in as the chemical heat packs use oxygen to produce the heat. You can also purchase a power inverter that can be used with heating pads, but the heat packs will most likely offer enough heat for the trip. You want to wrap the heat packs in a towel and secure them so the critters cannot lay directly on them.
Don't feed the critters the day of, or 12 hrs before you start your trip.
Placing the critter in a zippered pillowcase(cloth) will help to keep them in one place and help them to feel more secure.  They will think its their night time and relax and sleep. This is the best way to contain the snake. We shipped a juvy iguana from PA to CA with the pillowcase inside of the plastic shoe container inside a small cat carrier with no problems.  The cat carrier was needed as that it was by air.
Just be sure to not transport in any glass or hard plastic.  In the event of an accident, the glass or hard plastic can shatter.
For the smaller critters (reptiles) the soft plastic shoe storage boxes work well for the reptiles and the snake. You don't want them to be too cramped, but you don't want them to have too much room to move about. Even a small cat carrier will work for the adult beardies. Many people like to transport the adults in the mesh type carriers, but...the small tubs and shoe storage containers are much more economical if you don't have the other carriers available.
Also, make sure that the sun is not beating down on any of the cages during the trip.
If you are stopping along the way, again, make sure that the sun isn't beating down on them through a window.
