Question
I have a 4 year old male mali uromastyx.  A few weeks ago, he was eating a lot and going to the bathroom.  The last 2 weeks, he had stopped eating and going to the bathroom.  All he does is sleep all day long, he's very obesse and wringlinged on his sides of his body.  Everytime you try to pick him up and pet him, he just wiggles in your hands and jumps, and he makes a cracking sound when he breathes with his mouth open.  he is not active at all. I soak him  every day in warm water and have lights on.  I tried to call the vet in my area and no one knows anything about him.  I don't have a money to take him to a vet or anything.  IS there anything tht I can do at home inexpensive?  i have a 3 year old female and she is active, eating, and etc...

Answer
Hello Gina,
Are your temps optimal?  That sounds like a respiratory infection based on the crackling sound when he breathes.  Are they housed together?
What are his temps & how do you measure the temps?
The basking temps should be 120-125 measured with a temp gun or a digital probe.  They should have a good gradient in the tank, & a cooler end of around 80 or so, with next to no humidity.
Breathing with his mouth open is a classic sign of a respiratory infection.
Your temps must be off or the humidity is too high.  Respiratory infections, if left untreated, will get worse & will kill your Uro.
I would not soak him in water though, they really don't need that.
What type of lights are you using?  A UVB & a basking light?
What types of foods are you feeding?
