Question
QUESTION: i have allot of climbing space and everything for my Chinese water dragon.  But a few days ago i noticed that his eyes seemed to be glued shut and the only way that they would open is for me to swab his eyes with a q-tip that is damp. what do i do?  what is causing this problem?  how do i fix it?

ANSWER: Hello Chuck,

What type & brand of UVB light are you using?  Is it a flourescent tube bulb or a compact or coil light?
How close is it to him?  What type of basking light are you using?  A bright white light or a colored light?
Please let me know the type & brand of light.  If you are using a Reptiglo 10 product, or a Zilla T-50 series, there could be eye problems.  Any compacts or coils are hard on the eyes, too.  The Zoomed Reptisun 5 & 10 compact/coil lights are horrible on the eyes too & cause damage.  If you are using one of those lights, please turn it off & just leave the basking light on right now.
Right now, you can get some saline solution to help rinse the eyes out right now.

Let me know how he is doing.

QUESTION: Ok i just bought a zoo med UVB blue day light.  Its looks like the normal light bulb that you would buy.  My normal distance between the cage and the lamp is usually four to six inches away.  The new basking lamp that i just bought is an EXO TERRA.  The color of the basking lamp is a very dark blue I use it at night. I also got some turtle eye drops is that good or bad?

Answer
Hello Chuck,

Ok, so the Zoomed UVB light, is it a long flourescent tube bulb?  Is it the Reptisun 10 flourescent tube bulb?  If so, great.  Good, keep the UVB tube 6-8 inches away.
The Exo terra basking light is probably the Sun Glo which is fine.
How are you measuring the temps?  A stick on, a digital probe or a temp gun?
Oh excellent, I was going to suggest the turtle eye drops as well, if you couldn't find any saline solution.  They are fine, you can use them for a couple of weeks as well.
At night, you could use some warm herbal tea bags & place them on the eyes for 10-15 minutes as he is going to sleep.

Let me know how he is doing.  :-))
