Unfertlized eggs

Question
Hello,

I asked for your help a little over a year ago with my male gecko and I'm happy to say he is doing wonderfully and made a full recovery!!

I now have a question about my female gecko. She has been laying set after set of 2 or 3 unfertilized eggs. I don't have an incubator set up or subtrate for her to lay in, and I know I need to do that, but is it healthy for her to be laying so many eggs? I got her and the male as babies in August of 2007. Since the male got sick, she has been dominant and is a much better hunter. I coat the crickets I feed them with calcium, and there is a dish in the cage she licks sometimes. She is very healthy with a fat tail, I am just concerned with so many unfertilized eggs--I thouight they were supposed to reabsorb them? Is there anything I can do or is this normal?

Thanks again,

Gwen

Answer
Hello Gwen,

Great to hear that your male gecko is much much better now.  :-))

Are you keeping the male & the female together?  She should not be laying that many eggs, but, if they are housed together, then he may be mating her more than you realize.
No, they do not always reabsorb the eggs.
I would continue to supplement the calcium, & ensure that she is eating plenty of foods too.  There is nothing wrong with giving some waxies a couple of times per week either, to give her some extra fats too.
At least she doesn't seem to be having any trouble passing the eggs though.  How old is she?
