Question
Hi i am wondering how to cure a heating problem with my 30 gallon tank,my python. My python is a month and half old i keep a under tank heater for the tank size and a 50 watt basking lamp on all day and the tempature stays at around 80% wich is fine. But at night around 9 p.m i turn only the basking lamp off and leave under heater on but then the tank drops to 70 to 73 degrees wich has me concerned, becuse they say 12 hrs of light and 12 hrs of dark, so how could i prevent this or is this something that i should'nt be to worried about?

Answer
Hello Tommy,

Well, what you could do is get a ceramic heat emitter that you can leave on all day & all night.  You would need to put a heat cage around the ceramic heat emitter to keep him from wrapping around the emitter unless you have it way out of his way.
That along with the undertank heater should keep the temperatures optimal for him.
They do need a little cooler area in their tank, but they need a warmer end as well the other times so they can warm up when they need to.
