Green Anole -

Question
I own 3 green Anoles. All 3 green Anole eat and drink well, and physically look fine. Most of the time they are green, although, do change colour from dark brown, light mixed brown to green, and have been know to look spotty. For the most part they are green, or light brown grey, which is good. I have own all 3 Anoles for about 10 months.

Diet consists of small Locust. Sometimes I dust the Locust, sometimes not, its about 1 in every 6 feeds.

Their environment, consists of glass vivarium is sprayed at least once a day with water, usually first thing in the morning. There are also real plants, along with fake plants / leafs (they prefer to sleep among the fake leafs). There is a level of humidity, that decreases through out the day.

Lighting comes from 2 lights. 1x UV, 1x White Spot. Both bulbs designed to be used with Retiles.

One of the Anoles definitely has developed a problem. He is the largest Anole, so could possibly be the oldest. Symptoms include twitch of his head every now and then. By twitch, it includes a single rapid movement upwards, or sideways, normally caused during movement. If the Anole is stationary, or a sleep, there is no sign of the twitch. More disturbingly is what appears to be his lack of ability to judge jumping properly. In the past, as with the other 2 Anoles, he could jump precisely. Now he jumps, and it looks about 90% correct. Mentality he behaves as per usual, and appears quite happy.

Conclusions I have reached include, old age, possible nerve damage to neck, or poor eye sight, although his eyes look clear and healthy.  I am curious if this is common in Anoles, and what the causes are.

Answer
I would suspect a problem with his ability to metabolize calcium, which would cause the twitch, although with the other problems you mentioned it may do well to have him seen by the veterinarian. The vet could rule out neurological problems and do a blood panel to see if he's metabolizing calcium properly.  Green anoles can live 7 to 9 years in captivity with good care.
