Question
Tracie,
What is your take on Anthelban and Baycox for a Bearded Dragon?
Are they better to use then Albon and panacur or just more expensive? I know that albon and panacur can be ordered online at 1/3 of the cost that the vet wants.  What would be a correct dose for a Dragon at 480g?

My Beardies stool sample came back positive for Pinworm eggs 4+ and Coccidia 4+.

Answer
Hello Michele,

The Anthelban which is just pyrantel pamoate, is effective against pinworms, just like the Panacur or Fenbendazole is.  The Panacur is probably more routinely used, but, most dewormers with the exception of Ivermec & Ivermectin are safe when used properly.
The Baycox is actually better, in my opinion, than the regular Albon.  It is a sulfone compound, specifically Toltrazuril, which is like Ponazuril.  They are anticoccidial agents & work very fast so the doses are short & quick.  It should only be dosed for a 1 time or 2 times, max, of 20mg/kg.  That is the good thing about the Baycox, it works so fast that not much of it is needed.
The Albon takes longer, so it needs to be given for a 10-14 or 14-21 day cycle.
The Baycox can't be bought without a prescription, to my knowledge, online.

So, it is really up to you.  The Panacur would be cheaper bought online, yes.  I actually sell it by treatments, so you don't waste the entire tube.  I can't sell the Baycox, obviously, but do have the Albon but don't have it listed on my site yet.

How is your dragon doing, is he eating well right now?
The dose of dewormers is usually across the board of 25-50mg/kg.  Most are standard 10% paste, unless you purchase the granules & mix it to a specific concentration/solution.
The Albon is normally a 5% concentration, sometimes 10%.  The standard dose of the Albon is usually 50mg/kg.

I hope this helps out.  Here is my site if you decide you want to go the Panacur route instead of the Anthelban.
