Question
My younger sister's rabbit ate a cherry pit. Is there anything that we should look for or should we get her into the vet as soon as possible?

Answer
Sue, How large is the rabbit? The pit,if whole, may have a hard time passing through the rabbit's digestive tract of the rabbit is small. (4 pounds or less)You will notioce that if, after a few days, the rabbit has not defecated, or is otherwise bloating up. If so, get to the vet right away! If this doesn't happen, the rabbit has passed the pit and all is well.

Some other issues are whether the pit was whole or chewed. Don't know how the rabbit got the pit, but there are occasionally things in fruit pits that are poisonous to animals. By the time you read this, you rabbit will probably have some digestive issue from the pit, or it will have passed it.

Here are some tips about giving treats to you rabbit... Give NO succulents (Cabbage, lettuce, or other watery vegetables). Carrots are OK, and some twigs from trees may even be enjoyed. The rabbits need fresh water and rabbit feed. They do NOT need extra salt spools, nor anything. They do enjoy good hay, but not grass, as it has too much water.  Sue, hopes this helps your sister. Best wishes to her with her bunny!  Steve
