False or real pregnacy?

Question
My bunny, leroy,a female lives with a nuetured male bunny, moxie, but recently her son, soot, has been running around their cage inside another cage but still right beside them. They have been separated but could it be possible that she is pregnant with her son's baby? i just noticed she has been pulling fur and digging holes and in their hutch they have been making a nest. i am really worried becuase if she is pregnant with her son's baby wouldn't that mean that they would have a high chance of being defective?
~ Thank you

Answer
Dear Jessica,

If she has not been in physical contact with Soot, then she may still be suffering from a false pregnancy.  She needs to be spayed to avoid this constant cycle, which can promote mastitis (infection of the mammary glands) and other reproductive system problems.  Unspayed, unbred females have a very high risk of uterine cancer.  Please see:

and find a good rabbit vet here:

Yes, there is a higher risk of genetic problems if the two parents are related to each other.  But let's hope she's not pregnant, and that soon she'll be spayed and her son neutered.

Hope this helps.
