drooping rabbit ears

Question
I have an English spot (Charlie) rabbit which has always had upright ears. Recently both ears (one and then the other a few days later) have dropped and do not stick up any more. The vet can find no evidence of infection. He is 4years old and appears healthy. Why has this happened, because he just doen't look the same any more.

Answer
Injury to the base of the ears can cause them to drop. The ears are supported in an upright position by a fairly thick chunk of cartilage. If anything happens to that (or if the cartilage was a bit weak to begin with, it can occassionally degenerate a bit with age, just like human ears can drag downward with age), it can cause partial or full lopping.
