Question
my rabbit is light to medium brown with whit near root and black near the tip. his ears were clipped by the last owner but I've had him 2-3 years. i came home today and he hadn't eaten or drank anything. so i took him out of the cage and set him down to run. he sat under the chair and when i move him and let him go he goes right back to that spot. he looks depressed or sad. and i have to admit that i haven't had time to play with him since this weekend. i cant afford a vet and i was wondering if you could help me with trying to figure out what breed he is and what is wrong with him....mostly what's wrong. but i would greatly appreciate your help.

Answer
Candy - when a rabbit is sick he will stop eating and drinking and that is very dangerous - sometimes even more dangerous than the illness itself.

Are his dropping ok ?  Is his tail area wet ?  Is he breathing faster than normal ?

I would suggest two things right away

1) in 2 cups of water put one teaspoon of orange pedialite ( powered electrolytes given to babies - if you can find it without sugar even better - or in leu of this a sports drink with out sugar ( real or fake ).  This is to keep him hydrated.
2) give him a one inch square of fresh papaya ( fruit ) and a one inch piece of banana with peel and all.

If he eats this leave him quite for a few hours, play with him gently and give him the same treatment.

Tonight take away his pellets and leave him just fiber and the sports drink.

Tomorrow give him the bandana and some raw rolled oats ( the kind your grandmother cooked for you - not the instant )

Hopefully if the problem is mild and intestinal with this he should feel better.  let me know how he fares please.
