Weird begavior in weird rabbit

Question
This question might sound a little weird, but, from my bedroom's window I've seen a brown rabbit that makes a weird noise, it is like a howl, like "uuuuh", and runs in circles, then stops, then runs in circles again. I was wondering if that is normal because I've had rabbits as pets and they barely made any sounds (except when scared).
The rabbit is not mine; it sometimes shows up in the garden, and it never lets anyone to approach him, it runs away as soon as someone walks towards him.
Im not sure but I think it could be rabid.

What do you think?

PD- Hope you can help me, because people is already thinking about killing it and if it is not sick I would like to save it.

Answer
Dear Jason,

It's very doubtful that this rabbit has rabies, since a rabbit will rarely survive an encounter with a rabid animal.

I can't hear the noise you mention to judge, but rabbits *do* vocalize, and it's possible that with spring approaching the rabbit is engaging in some hormone-driven sexual behavior.

If the rabbit is running away from humans, it is probably a wild rabbit, and I would not bother him at all.  Let him do his springtime thing and tell the neighbors to leave him alone.  He is not going to hurt anyone.

If this is a domestic rabbit, I would recommend that you try to trap the bunny and get him to a vet for a complete checkup, just for your peace of mind.
