lump behind the nek

Question
I have a 4yr old male rabbit. Today when I caddle him to grooming, I can feel that on the left side on the neck, there is a marble like lump. It is not prominent at his sitting position. But when at the craddling position, the lump can be felt by the index finger.  It feels like a marble, round and will move around when I use my finger to press around it.

Will be bringing him to the vet but meanwhile what is your professional advice?

Please advise if this is cancer?

pls advise asap

Answer
Dear Angela,

It's actually a good sign that the lump moves freely with the skin.  If it were attached to the underlying tissue, it could be a cancerous tumor of a very aggressive type--but that's not the case here, so don't worry.

You should have this checked and removed by a good rabbit vet, though:

It could be an abscess, a fibrous tumor, or even a cancerous tumor that is still removable and not as great a threat as one that is attached.  So you're wise to have this checked (and probably surgically removed) as soon as possible.

It's not an emergency, but it is good that you're having this taken care of.

Good luck,

Dana
