Question
Hello~
I have a 4 month old dwarf rabbit and was wondering how big of a cage should she have? The store we got the cage at said that it should be about 4 times her length. I bought the smaller cage because she was so small and I was told that it would last her for a year or so. Since then she has grown 2/3 times her original size.Making the cage 2.5 times her length. She can still stretch out but her cage seem so small now. I let her out for 4 to 6 hours a day so she can get her exercise. Is this enough? and if I have to get a new cage how much room does she need?

Answer
Hi Tiffany,

the cage was fine when she was small, but it is too small for her now.  I would consider getting her a larger cage.  Bigger is always better.  Prevue has a line of cages they sell that are actually nicely done and are on wheels that you may want to check out.  I would recommend their largest size cage they make (I believe model 620) - it would give her almost a 2 ft by 4 ft area which I think she would love.  Here is a site that carries it at the best price I've found:

They have plastic coated wire grating, but you will need to put cotton towels or bedding down so that she can be more comfortable.

As for exercise time, again, more is better.  4-6 hours is technically adequate so if you can't give her more, you are still giving her enough time out to play.  IF you can't increase her time out, an alternative is giving her more space if you can bunny-proof it and she'll be able to run a little more.
