Question
I live in Guernsey in the Channel Islands and I have a pair of 5 month old black lop eared (large)bucks from same litter. they have always been together and actually miss each other if separated. They eat a combination of two different specialist foods one is a pellet and the other is a mix of different foods usually have a bowl of each as each rabbit has a different preference! They also have a variety of root vegetables and greens with the occasional treat of an apple or pear and  are allowed out of the hutch into a secure garden every day and put back in at night where they forage at will. while getting them in tonight we spotted a red lump on Bovril's eye. On close inspection it looked like an infected eyelash or hair follicle. Then as we put him down my husband spotted discoloured patches on the inside of his ears. He is active as usual and eating heartily. he does not appear to show any sign of pain or discomfort and as yet his brother does not appear to show any sign. Is this the early signs of myxi?
If not what are the other possibilities? I will be calling the vet first thing on monday morning.

Answer
Trish - do you have biting insects in the garden ?  Something could have stung or bitten him on the eye lid.  Patches in the ears could be ear mites or fur mites - both need the same treatment with the vet.  I would not worry - does not sound serious.
