2 brother rabbits

Question
When I was a child, we had 2 brother rabbits that were fine in the beginning but fought when they reached sexual maturity. At the time, it was decided it was cheaper to separate them than to neuter them.

Fast forward 15 years...We have adopted 2 brothers - they are just babies and the pet shop owner said they would be fine together growing up and would not fight. (that is not true in my experience) This time around, if they display any fighting behaviour, I plan on getting them neutered.

Do boy bunnies that are friends that get neutered early (4-6 months) stay friends in you experience?

Answer
In my experience yes.  It's the neutering that is the key.

It will be easier for them to remain friends if you neuter them as soon as the testicles drop.  There may be a tense couple of months while you wait for them to get old enough and for the hormones to get out of the system.

But once that is done, they can go back to being friends.  It can differ with each rabbit a bit.  Some may not have any trouble at all during this time.  But with some rabbits, there will be displays of mounting, spraying, and fighting.  But if they do get aggressive with each other, you may need to do some bunny bonding 101 after the hormones are out of everyone's system to get them to move past their hormone crazed behavior to each other.

I personally have had much more success with neutered males getting along then any combination with females.  Once everyone is neutered the boys just seem to be "fat, dumb, and happy".

Good luck, there may be some tough spots, but I think it will work out
