Dear Dr.! I had read your answer for the mites problem in rabbits. My Bunny was also getting the same case.I m also attaching an image of my bunny, (Which I think is a mite problem) I Just want to ask that, how can i prevent my other bunnies from getting mite infection? OR What is the prevetive care of rabbits against mite problem?

Answer
Dear Junaid,

Yes, the bunny in the picture has a pretty severe case of mange.  Fortunately, this is easily and safely cured with either injectible ivermectin, or--much better--topical application of Revolution (selamectin) from your vet.  The mites will die within about 12 hours of medication, and the crusts will start to fall off within about a week.

Don't try to remove the crusts, as they are covering damaged, sensitive tissue.  Let them heal from underneath and they will fall off as soon as the skin underneath is healed enough and doesn't need the scab any more.

I hope your bunny will get treatment very quickly, as this is a painful, itchy condition.  All the bunnies can be treated with Revolution to prevent this problem.  You can find a good rabbit vet to help you here:

and read more about mites and their symptoms here:

Hope this helps, and that your bunny will be fine soon.
