rabbit blindness

Question
I have had my rabbit going on 3 years and a couple of days ago I noticed that in her right eye the pupil has turned blue and she does not respond when you shine a pinlight into that eye or if you move your hand on that side of her head. Is it common for a rabbit to go blind in one eye as they grow older? She is indoor rabbit that stays in a cage in my living room the only time she goes out doors is when we are home and then we move her cage onto the front porch. I would greatly appreciate any help you can offer me with helping my rabbit.

Answer
Hi,

rabbits can go blind, but 3 years old is not old for rabbits.  House rabbits can live 10-12 years, and rabbits are not considered "old" until age 6.

I would get her checked out by your regular good rabbit vet.  IF you don't have one go here (not all vets are good rabbit vets):

www.rabbit.org/vets/vets.html

and find a House Rabbit Society recommended vet near you.

It is important to have a vet examine her because you want to know what could be causing it (more than one reason it could be this way) and if it is treatable or if there is something that can be done, you should know about it.
