QuestionHi, I'm Ashley.. Last night, I acquired a baby rabbit!! I need help!! Where ever its nest was, it got destroyed, and I am pretty certain this one is the only survivor. A farm cat brought all of them into the garage, for me to find, and I managed to save this one!! I would really like to care for him more, and on my own. I have saved one other rabbit previously a good four years ago, he had a cleft pallet, but he grew up to be strong and healthy!! I don't know exactly how young this one is, but it is the size of my palm. Its ears are still held back, but its eyes are open!! The one I saved before, I fed kitten formula, and that seemed to work great, but I have read today that I should used goat formula instead?? What should I do to save this gorgeous little fella?? Please e-mail me right away!! ( curbside_collection@hotmail.com ) thank you SO much!!
Sincerely,
Ashley
AnswerDear Ashley,
You can find instructions for care and feeding in these two articles:
www.bio.miami.edu/hare/wildbabies.pdf
and
www.bio.miami.edu/hare/orphan.html
If the baby was at all injured by the cat, he needs to be seen by an experienced rabbit vet:
www.rabbit.org/vets
and given fluoroquinolone antibiotics to prevent systemic infection with Pasteurella, which can cause sudden death in these babies.
I hope the baby will be fine. If you think you cannot care for him, then you can find a wildlife rehabilitator here:

Good luck,
Dana
