Rabbit wont open her mouth to eat.

Question
My rabbit won't open her mouth to eat.  She wants to eat, she comes over to the food and tries to eat.  She tries to eat the treats she was able to eat easily before and she appears to gnaw and mutilate enough to eat some, and then she drops it.  She appears to be hungry, but then after attempting to eat (without success), hops away.  Her front teeth appear fine.  We have physically opened her mouth and checked the front teeth.

Answer
Dear Karen,

Your bunny needs to be seen by a very experienced rabbit vet:

www.rabbit.org/vets

who can look deep into the mouth and check for molar spurs, molar root abscesses or other problem that is causing your bunny too much discomfort to properly prehend her food.  Please read:

www.bio.miami.edu/hare/dental.html

for some preliminary information, but please get her to a good vet ASAP for treatment.  Front teeth are almost never the source of a problem like this, and molar problems are far more common than people realize.

I hope this helps.
